This flat wingless bugs have two antennas on their head and three bristles at the back of their body. Silverfish have shiny silver scales that give their body a silver sheen. Firebrats bodies are gray or brown with bands of dark scales. They are both scavengers and love to eat crumbs, dead insects, starch, glue, wallpaper paste, and paper products, yet can live without food for many months. If unchecked, an infestation can cause severe damage consuming and staining fabric, paper, books, and wallpaper. Both are night insects found in attics, basements, bathrooms, wall voids, subfloor areas, and cracks or crevices. How they get into your house, well, they normally get a ride on food, furniture, old books, papers, and old clothing. Silverfish can be found anywhere that it’s damp: cool locations like sinks, bathtubs, and other plumbing fixtures where they go for moisture, fall in, and can’t climb out. Firebrats favour warmer humid areas like attics and around furnaces, ovens, and water heaters.
