Insects

Silverfish

Silverfish roam distances in search of food. Fond of paper products and textiles, they can be brought into the house in infested cardboard boxes. They prefer warm, dark, undisturbed areas and feed on the glue in bookbinding and behind wallpaper, as well as paper sizing. They can live up to 3 ½ years.

Fleas

Blood-feeding arthropods pose a health threat as they can transmit tapeworms and several major human diseases. Attracted to animal body heat and movement, the adults feed on blood. Most commonly found on cats and dogs during the warm weather, fleas are capable of producing millions of offspring during their 100-day lifespan. Fleas can jump a distance of 150 times the length of their body.

Cockroaches

Although rare to find in Delta, cockroaches do surface from time to time. They can be brought in with cardboard boxes that have been shipped from overseas. You will find them in kitchens, pantries, electrical outlets and appliances. They are most active right after dusk and just before dawn. They are immune to poisons, are known to survive decapitation and need very little food and water to survive.
