Out of all of pests we deal with, rats are the most destructive pest for homes and businesses. It is estimated that almost 50% of electrical damage in homes and businesses are caused by rodents. Rats have a pair of endlessly growing incisor teeth in both their upper and lower jaw that require nonstop gnawing on objects to wear them down and prevent them from becoming too elongated. Rats are known to gnaw on electrical cables. This can cause a major fire hazard when they gnaw through to the copper and the wires short out. For an electrician to source any electrical problems in a house it can runs thousands of dollars, as well as days without electricity. Integrated pest management offers a real answer to managing rodent problems. Common-sense practices can help prevent and eliminate an infestation. Four core rules in integrated pest management included: 1) eliminating the opportunity for rats to enter your property through exclusion 2) removal of food sources and harborage 3) exterminating rats from your home or business 4) monitoring to ensure that the rodents doesn’t return.
