Fireflies

Fireflies are soft-bodied beetles that are also called glow worms, or lightning bugs for their visible use of bioluminescence during twilight to attract mates or prey. This chemically produced cold light can be yellow, green, pale red, or ghost blue. First, air rushes into the abdomen and reacts with the luciferin, that gives off the glow that you see in fireflies. Fireflies can even control the pulsating of the glow by regulating the airflow into their abdomens. Some female fireflies aren’t motivated by mating, and some will imitate the patterns of other species of fireflies to attract males to eat them alive.
