BIRD CONTROL AND OTHER PEST IN LADNER, TSAWWASSEN AND SOUTH DELTA

BIRD CONTROL AND OTHER PESTS IN LADNER, TSAWWASSEN AND SOUTH DELTA

Birds nesting in a dryer vent, bathroom fan or gutter can block airflow, bring in mites and leave

droppings that damage siding and roofing. Go Green removes nests where the law allows, cleans up

the area and seals the openings so birds can't move back in. If your pest isn't listed on our menu, this

page covers the other problems we help South Delta homeowners with.

How We Handle Birds

We identify the bird species first, because that decides what we're allowed to do. Most wild birds in Canada are protected, along with their active nests. Starlings, house sparrows and pigeons are not, so we can remove their nests and clean the area. For protected species, we wait

until the nest is no longer active. Then we install vent covers, screens or other bird proofing so the problem doesn't repeat next season.

Bird Control FAQ

Can I remove a bird nest myself?

Only if it belongs to a non protected species like starlings, house sparrows or pigeons. Removing the active nest of a protected bird is against federal law, so it's worth having the species identified first.

When do birds start nesting?

In South Delta, most nesting starts in March and April. Sealing vents and gaps over the winter is the easiest way to prevent it.

Are bird dropping a health risk?

Built up droppings can carry bacteria and fungi. Avoid sweeping them dry, and wear gloves and a mask when cleaning.
