You’ll need to check your property for problem areas at least 4 times a year- seasonally. Look for entry points into your house, shed, or garage. Food and water sources such as pet food and water bowls, and bird feeders that may lead to rodent problems. Watch out for signs of rats especially in older buildings, sheds, or other structures that are vacant for a long period of time, as they are particularly susceptible to rodents seeking shelter. In your immediate area, if a house has been abandoned and slated to be torn down, there is a greater chance that the rodents will scatter and find refuge in surrounding yards. Older log style buildings with many small openings in the corners are also susceptible those little vermin – mice. In general, look for feces, urine stains, burrowing holes or nests. In storage sheds, check for chew marks in seeding packages and even fertilizer bags.
