Yes, as you turn on your furnace and maintain that comfy 21 degree, your attic becomes a warm safe haven for all vermin. And when I say vermin, I’m talking about mice, voles, rats, squirrels, skunks and raccoon’s. Mice can squeeze into your home through a hole the size of a dime, rats through a loonie, and squirrels through a squash ball size, a skunk through a tennis ball size and a raccoon through a standard cell phone body.   1. Look all around the outside of your house for any access holes, under shingles, where roof lines intercept, air vents and dislodged siding.
  2. Mice are more likely than rats to live close to humans; therefore you are more likely to see mice dropping in your kitchen and rat droppings in the attic.
  3. If you hear scratching in the walls or ceiling its likely you have mice, rats or squirrels. If you hear thumping or bumping then it’s likely a raccoon or a poltergeist.
  4. If you detect new foil odors, check your attic for signs of recent activity. Rodents are not potty-trained and leave a trail of foul reminders where ever they go.
  5. Call a professional if you have a rodent problem.
