New study reveals 1 in 10 rented homes infested with rodents. Rodent infestation is a major problem in privately-rented properties, according to new report. A study done by Housing charity Shelter said that rodent (rats and mice) issues where reported that was the equivalent of one in ten privately rented properties. The same study also found almost half of renters had experienced general housing problems relating to poor conditions or disrepair. The government must to do more to protect renters from the rogue landlords who rent out these shoddy properties, so that every renter can feel safe from the rodent population in their own home. The report also wrote, “Imagine trying to raise a child in a home crawling with vermin or falling apart at the seams, with a rogue landlord who refuses to fix it and nowhere else to go because of there’s nothing else you can afford”. Almost a third of private renters surveyed had lived in a property with mold and a fifth put up with poor insulation and excess cold.
