Misconceptions about pesticides stem from ignorance. “A lot of people don’t educate themselves about pesticides and become paranoid and scared. They think that applying all pesticides is dangerous because of miss-information,” states Randy Bilesky of Go Green Pest Control. Health Canada administers endless studies on the products used to ensure that they are safe. Pesticide formulations, for insects, are constantly upgraded to work more efficiently, and there is better understanding about what products can do every day. “Everything we use has to be registered by Health Canada,” he says.
Bilesky believes what is bad, even dangerous, is pesticides in the hands of the uneducated. “Not to say that everybody doesn’t read the labels, but there are some homeowners that don’t,” he says, noting this is when pesticides become dangerous. As structural pest control applicators, “We are educated, trained, certified and are mandated to keep up to date on changes in the industry through seminars and conferences” he says.
