The Indian meal moth is also known as the Indianmeal moth, weevil moth, pantry moth, flour moth or grain moth (not to be confused with the meal moth, confused?). Its larvae are a common grain-feeding pest, feeding on grains, flours, dried fruit, cereals, nuts, sugar, dog food, and most other stored products in your cupboards and pantry. The adult Indianmeal moth causes no damage, just a visual nuisance. One of the best preventive measures is sanitation. Cupboards and pantries should be kept clean and vacuumed, and any spills should be cleaned up quickly. As I have mentioned many times, store food products in containers with tight-fitting lids, made of glass, metal or plastic. To kill off any insects in dry food products, freeze them for at least a week; personally I throw them out as I don’t want to think that there are dead bugs in my fruit loops.
