A nice warm dry house is the perfect setting for pests like rats, mice, squirrels, skunks and raccoons to spend fall and winter and conserve energy by escaping the weather. Make time to keep your home pest-free whether you’ve seen signs or heard pest activity or just want serenity at home.
Pest Free step 1. Pest loves our food, so remove the temptation. Remove any invitations by keeping your kitchen clean, dirty dishes in the dishwasher, no used pots and pans in the sink or on the stovetop. Clean up spills and crumbs immediately. Store food in airtight containers made of thick plastic or metal, especially pet food or bird seed.
Pest Free step 2. Make your yard look like a golf course – no clutter. Remove all debris against the side of your house or at least move it away from the walls. Clean out your gutters and remove any dead leaves.
Pest Free step 3. Walk around your house and look for holes, cracks and crevices. Seal off entry points to stop rodents and insects from squeezing in. If need be, use latex, silicon, metal mesh or wood to seal the entry points. Look for gaps around pipes, door sweeps and garage seals, screens behind gables and roof vents. Keep doors closed, as much as possible, as mice usually get in this way.
Pest Free step 4. Call a professional before it gets too bad. Waiting until it’s too late to call in a certified professional can lead to major damage, costing you that much more money.
