Pharaoh Ant Revisited

The Pharaoh ant is one of the most difficult indoor pests to control.  Pharaoh ants are predominantly aggressive and robust against many store bought control treatments. Pharaoh ants mate in their nests and spread by budding or splitting the colony. They lack nestmate recognition so there is no hostility between colonies. A single colony may contain as many as 2,000 workers and 20 queens, but the close proximity of multiple colonies can give the illusion of a single, large, supercolony.  Pharaoh ants like warm, humid areas indoors such as near drains, pipes, or wiring and are often seen in heated buildings during colder months. Nesting sites usually are interior walls voids, behind baseboards and appliances. These ants search as far as 40 meters away from the nest.  Do not spray the ants because this will worsens the problem, as pharaoh ants will bud creating satellite nests very quickly after sensing danger. The process of controlling a pharaoh ant infestation may take several months and up to a year. Yes, they will sting if they get caught up in your clothes!
