Jumping spiders are the largest family of spiders, more than 5,000 species. Here in Delta we have the Bold and Zebra jumping spiders. These spiders’ behaviors are different from those of your average spider as they stalk and pounce on their prey, usually at night. They do build spider several webs but there used for shelter and protection. When threatened, they prefer is to flee rather than to stay and fight so being bitten by a jumping spider is very rare. Since jumping spiders are venomous, if bitten the site will be itchy, swell, and even develop a few blisters. If you don’t know if it was a jumping spider then it may have been a black widow, brown recluse, or hobo spider, so its not a bad idea to see your doctor.
