3 Pesticides vs All Endangered Species

These three pesticides—chlorpyrifosdiazinon, and malathion—can harm 97 percent of the plants and animals listed under the endangered species act. These three pesticides kill insects by disrupting their brains and nervous systems. They affect animals, including humans, by disturbing the nervous system’s ability to carry signals and are now known carcinogens. Chlorpyrifos adversely affect children’s neurological development and behavior. Diazinon can seep into groundwater, and contaminate drinking water over a period of months. Although malathion breaks down faster it has been found in both streams and well water. These three pesticides are now not available for the public to purchase they still are used on a variety of food crops, including soybeans, corn, wheat, almonds, grapes, strawberries, kale, and many other kinds of fruit, vegetables, nuts, and grains. A report recently released sited the effects of cumulative, indirect, and sublethal effects of pesticide exposure, and it was determined that these chemicals are harming nearly all endangered species.
