Buying Used Furniture and Bed Bugs

snipimage

Varage and craigslist are two great ways of buying and selling used furniture, I’ve done it myself many times. If you are the buyer you need to keep in mind that just because it may look nice on the outside, there may be bed bugs lurking inside ready to start a pest infestation. Try to avoid choosing anything upholstered and buy furniture made of solid materials. Here are a few guidelines on how to choose used furniture and how to avoid bed bugs a.k.a. bed louse, wall louse, night riders, wallpaper flounder, red coats, crimson ramblers, bat bugs, bird bugs, mahogany flats.

1.    Place the furniture on a white sheet to see if any bed bugs fall out.

2.    Run your finger over any wrinkles, cracks or seams on the furniture’s surface. You are looking for actual bed bugs or dark red stains (feces).

3.    Use your flashlight to inspect any concealed areas of the furniture. Bed bugs can hide in the nail and screw holes and underneath loose paint.

     4. Don’t collect furniture from the curb. There could be serious sanitary issues, bed bugs and other pests.
