Caterwauling Feral Cats

Feral cats are the offspring of domestic cats that have never actually belonged to a person or had any socialization with people. Feral cats are mostly fearful and have trouble acclimatizing to humans. They readily adapt to their environments and prefer to live in colonies. Feral cats can live on garbage, pet food, rodents, birds, fish and insects. A feral cat problem comes from the animal’s ability to breed. Feral cats can have as many as 12 kittens multiple times a year yet their average lifespan is only a couple years due to their living conditions. Feral cats can be harmful to local bird populations and are known to spread tapeworms and roundworms as well as rabies and toxoplasmosis. Live trapping feral cats is highly discouraged as they are regarded as untamed wildlife. Feral cats are like small bobcats and will do anything to escape. Cats are currently the primary domestic animal associated with rabies exposure in humans.
