Cockroaches, One fine Football Player

Of all the insects, cockroaches could be amazing at football! Why would cockroaches make good football players? Cockroaches are one of the world’s most boundless pests, found on almost every continent in the world. It may surprise you, but cockroaches are fast, at 1.6 metres or 55 body lengths per second or the human equivalent of 333 km/hr. Now that would make a great running back. Cockroaches are one of the toughest insects around due to their exoskeletons, resisting forces of nearly 1000 times their own body weight. They are flexible also because of their exoskeletons allowing them to fit through cracks and crannies as small as a 1/4 of their size! As any good football player, they are opportunists, finding any way into your home through pipes, vents and the puniest of gaps. As a healthy football player, they need to consume a lot of food. Cockroaches will unequivocally eat everything, like grease, gum, feces and any other insect. And finally, like any top notch ball player, they don’t drop the ball. Female cockroaches create egg cases known as oothecal. The oothecal is a protein that hardens into a protective casing. The mothers will carry the eggs until they are ready to be hatched. Touch-down!
