With winter still in full grip of Delta, there have been no need to be concerned about mosquito control and there is no reason to panic over the Zika virus. The Zika virus is spread by the same type of mosquito that carries dengue fever and West Nile virus. The Zika virus often produces no symptoms or mild ones like fever in adults, but an outbreak in Brazil has been linked to a rare birth defect that causes a smaller head and brain development problems in newborns. Outbreaks have been reported in Africa, Southeast Asia, the Pacific islands, and the Americas. During the day, theses mosquitoes are resting underneath the leaves of trees and in dark areas, and when it cools later, they come out. Here are some ways to reduce problems with mosquitoes this summer: standing water in flower pots, birdbaths, kid pools and comparable places should be removed. Windows and doors should have screens and any tears repaired. Wearing long sleeves and pants and wearing mosquito spray will also help.
