This cold weather drives insects indoors to seek heat, food and water. Ants, flea, spiders, silverfish, and many others, are making your home their household. Do you want a bug free zone; several procedures can be used to decrease their occurrence. Examination of the outside of your home: remove any piles of leaves, firewood and general garbage next to the foundation. They attract insects and increase the likelihood of them entering your home. Tree branches should be cut at least 50 cm from the roof line and three times that distance if squirrels are jumping on your roof. Remove any vines that are growing on the sides of the house. Check the outside walls and foundation of your home for holes or cracks especially where pipes and wires enter the building. Seal all these gaps as they provide an open door for insects. If you haven’t checked your windows and doors for heat loss, since would be a good time to stop the heat from escaping and bugs getting in. Also remember, your chimneys can easily be used by insects and rodents for entry points. And don’t forget to vacuum often as insects love anything that hits the ground especially if its protein based. Once silverfish get into your house, they are attracted moist areas of your house, so keep all the rooms of your house as dry as possible, moisture is also a perfect atmosphere for mold.
