A study used two strains of mice, and set them up as roommates in different combinations. They studied the effects by measuring difference traits such as wound healing, body weight, anxiety and depressed mood in both mice. They found that each mouse affected the outcome of its roommates in healing, weight, anxiety and depression. The different genetic make-up effected up to 30% of the health of the healing and anxiety in the social partners. Therefore, the research in mice shows that the genetics of an individual’s social partners contributes to their state of health. The methods used to can help future research into the why one individual influences another. For an example, you are a morning person and your partner is a night owl, and you become ill. Research has shown that there is a connection between your illness and your partner’s sleeping pattern, which may influence your recovery time from lack of sleep. By changing the night owls negative influence on your sleep, you can make changes to your health.
