Mice helping man, again

In an experiment, surgeons injected cancerous mice with microscopic probes to locate the tumor. The nanoscale (highly interdisciplinary in nanoscience and nanotechnology) fluorescent probes that turn on when encountering cancer which help remove tumors in mice without harming healthy tissue. The switching on behavior is unique to nanoscale technology, which is measured in billionths of a meter. The microscopic probes light up cancer tumors less than .9 mm in diameter.  The new technique uses fluorescent dye that is compatible with most cameras used in operating rooms currently. Cancers are slightly more acidic than normal tissue which illuminates the probes when they come into contact with cancer cell. This process will help current imaging techniques that are not sensitive enough to always distinguish the cancerous cells and leave them behind after surgery.
