Pest control is considered regular maintenance, like normal wear and tear of your home, and your home insurance policy won’t cover it. If you notice droppings from rodents, sounds in your attic or crawl space or gnaw marks on garbage bins, its best to hire a pest control company. Pests can cause major damage to your home such as chewing through an electrical wires that can start a fire, or carpenter ants that build nests in the walls causing mold and structural damage. If your insurance company finds the source of the fire or damaged structural components was due to negligence, your insurer could reject your claim.
