  1. Are the chemicals used in the rat bait boxes warfarin? A. No, warfarin has not been used for years. The newer generation chemical used is called Bromadiolone, at a concentration of 0.05%, and is described as “We got a kinder, gentler, Machine gun hand”
  2. Will the poison that the rats eat from the bait boxes kill their predators? A. Secondary poisoning is very unlikely from Bromadiolone, although many variables are in play. Residential rodent poisons purchased from retail hardware stores are more of a concern because these chemical in the uneducated hands can cause a plethora of damage.
  3. Why are there winged ants coming out of my wall in November? A. Satellite ant colonies living in your walls will grow to a certain size then send out winged ants to mate and search for another location to build yet another colony.
  4. Why are moles ruining my lawn this time of year? A. Moles are year-round pests, but they’re particularly busy in spring and fall.
  5. Why are these mice and rats attacking my house now? A. When the weather turns colder and rainy, these rodents seek refuge in the closest, warmest location. Because of the continuous depletion of farm land in Delta i.e. the new twin malls, Tsawwassen Springs, Tsawwassen Shores, Century Group’s Northgate and Southlands and the Delta Port there has been an epidemic of huge proportions of the rodent population.
  6. Why am I seeing wasp/hornets in my house? A. In the fall most wasps have died and the new queens are tucked away for the winter in a safe location. The wasp nests that have developed in your warm attic will continue to prosper for some time until they run out of their food source.
  7. Can I get sick from the dirty stuff that mice and rats leave behind, all over my house? A. Both mice and rats continuously urinate and defecate as they roam around your kitchen, attic, walls and crawl space. There are many different health issues that can be associated with their “deposited materials”. Very young and older people or those with compromised immune systems are most susceptible to catching these diseases. The main diseases include: Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome (HPS, Murine Typhus, RBF (rat bite fever), food poisoning, Leptospirosis and Eosinophilic Meningitis.
  8. My house is two years old, why do I have silverfish? A. Silverfish are brought into your house via: clothing, books, bags etc. Silverfish require very little water or food to survive but once they have located a water source, moisture under your sink, they take-up permanent residence. pest pest pest pet
