Rats’ and their Drinking Habits

snipimage

Over the many years of experimenting with lab rats to help cure cancer and thousands of other research projects, rats have been subjected to alcohol. They have learned a lot about the consumption habits of these rodents. It is believed that rats do not get hangovers. It takes almost a thousand genes in rats DNA to make it an alcoholic. Researchers compared rats that liked to consume booze with teetotalling ones, they found that the alcoholic group is more likely to get withdrawal symptoms, continue to imbibe to stay tipsy, and do tricks for more alcohol. Pregnant rats that consumed liquor had babies that become alcoholics and recover from getting drunk quicker. Rats that consumed alcohol for five weeks had a lower rate of brain cell death; hence alcohol could help prevent Alzheimer’s?  Rats that drank champagne once a week were faster running through mazes and more likely to escaped from the mazes as well. And last but not necessarily least, deprived alcoholic rats, when stressed, really wanted to have a libation.
