Although sleeping beauty maybe fictional, bed bugs are as real as the day is long. Even back in the day when white knights were saving damsels in distress, they too carried bed bugs with them. They easily hitch a ride home as full sized bed bugs or eggs. So next time you are traveling by bus, train or plane, keep in mind the possible threat of bed bugs from the last rider. Currently in the news these past few months, we have heard about bed bugs in libraries, hospitals, and schools. Bed bugs are global travelers crossing the world on luggage and bags of those who travel. Next time you’re in line checking your luggage in at the airport, remember the threat of bed bugs and their eggs that hatch and lead to infestations.
After traveling, dump your belongings on a tile floor to see if bed bugs are present. Also wash and dry on high heat your clothing or linens; this will prevent the bed bugs and their eggs from surviving if they made it into your luggage.
