The Awesome Opossum

Adult opossums are about the size of a large cat. They prefer to establish a home in hollow logs, garages, under buildings, inside burrows and squirrels’ nests. The opossum is an omnivore, so it will eat anything. They reproduce one time per year and the partially developed babies live in the mothers pouch for three months. The opossum is the only marsupial (mammals of an order whose members are born incompletely developed and are typically carried and suckled in a pouch on the mother’s belly) in North America. The most notable similarity of these family members is the female’s abdominal pouch, designed for carrying and nurturing young. The opossum is a sluggish animal with the ability to produce a repulsive smell.
