The Tiger Beetle

Adult tiger beetles have big eyes and lengthy, sinewy legs. They have hostile hunting strategies and unbelievable speed. To catch its prey it can run over 100 times its length per second. The tiger beetle’s hunting procedure is imposing and violent. They feed other insects such as spiders and other insects larger then themselves. Their oversized eyes allow them to spot their dinner quickly but once they are in full flight they often lose sight of their prey. Their gigantic jaws are used as blades to stab their victim. They then excrete an acidic fluid that starts the digestive process, and then they slowly chomp the insect as they eat it. As larvae, they hide in small holes and similar to eels, they snap their heads upward to slog their victim back down.
