They Are Batty

Bats are flying creatures no larger than a mouse that can live up to 10 years. A single brown bat can consume over 500 mosquitoes an hour and a colony of 500 bats can eat millions insects nightly. When bats make their homes in buildings they become a nuisance with their presence and the smells of urine and droppings. Bats predators include hawks, falcons, owls, cats, snakes, and humans. To get rid of a bat colony in a structure its is best done before they move back in in the spring and at the end of fall. Effective exclusion includes stapling bird netting over entry points, using lights in an infested area may cause them to leave. Unlike rodents, bats will not gnaw their way through, but they will push aside loose barriers.
