May’s early hot streak follows the warmest April on record in Delta. May is off to a hot start, with sky-high temperatures shattering records. The warmer weather has created a boom in wasps and hornets. The warmer weather had been “incredible” for wasp breeding. Wasps have been off the scale this year, already I’ve been called out to a dozen wasp nest issues and the size of the nests are already a considerable size. Wasps are able to sting multiple times and can show aggression if disturbed in their attempt to secure a food source. Nesting either below ground or at ground-level height wasps need to be professionally dealt with to avoid multiple stings. Hornets are super protective of their nest and won’t hesitate to unleash an attack on anyone who dares venture too close. Nests are often spotted around buildings and homes, hiding under balconies and eaves and even hanging in trees. You need to exercise extreme caution around a hornets nest as its aggressive nature and ability to release an attack pheromone makes the task of removing a nest quit dangerous.
