Pest exclusion is designed to stop pest issues before they begin and are a part of the IPM integrated pest management protocol. Pests need three things for existence: food, water and shelter, so it maybe your house, business or the garage in the back. Once these pests find a way in, getting them gone can be challenging and may require insecticides to get the job done. To help keep pests outside where they belong, you need to find where they can enter. Pests can enter in a many ways. Mice can pass through an opening as small as your baby fingertip. Cockroaches need only need the height of two loonies stacked up. Since an open door is a call for pests to come inside, any door left open for minutes becomes a quick entry point for pests. Pests can also hitch a ride in boxes that have been stored somewhere, deliveries from warehouse and luggage. Cracks and crevices around a building are less obvious and difficult to spot, especially under the foundation. Another easy access point is windows that are not sealed properly or screened. Here are a few exclusion tips that you may need to look at: door sweeps, door strips, window screens, insulating expanding foam, caulking and screening.
