What’s that smell?? Odorous Ants!

Why do they call them odorous ants? Crush one and you can smell an off citrus smell. Ladner and Tsawwassen seem to be pledged by these very opportunistic ants, they can live in a variety of nesting sites, moving constantly to avoid detection and unfavorable habitat. I find them in huge super colonies (100,000 ants) with many satellite colonies located close to the main colony. The weather conditions are just right now for the mating winged ants to swarm, making your house look like a bad B movie scare flick.  These guys can contaminate our food as well as our pets with their excrement being the primary worry. The smell alone is bad enough to call an exterminator. These pests are quite ingenious, willing to pick things up and move their nest if conditions are disparaging. With a healthy colony containing as many as thousands, it’s best to deal with the infestation totally rather than deal with many colonies budding from the original.
