You can’t flee the flea

Yes, the fleas have been terrible this summer. Though the most fleas will likely do is leave your pets, fleas can pick up plague from infected rodents and pass on the bacterial infection to people. Fleas infected with tapeworm larvae can pass this on to dogs or cats that ingest such fleas — something that can happen when the animal is grooming itself. Depending on the severity of the flea infestation, simply treating pets may solve the problem. In years like this one, however, it might be necessary to be more aggressive in treating the flea infestations. This includes: frequent vacuuming of carpet, rugs and furniture, especially near areas where pets rest and sleep; washing pet’s bedding in hot water every week; combing pets with a flea comb; consulting a veterinarian about different flea treatments for pets, such as oral or spot-on treatments; using hand-spray flea control products to kill adult fleas and prevent flea larvae from becoming adults; keeping wild and stray animals away from pets and property; and if everything else fails  hire a professional pest control company, like go green pest control in Delta.
