Aphids the Plant Killer

Aphids or plant lice, cause more damage to cultivated plants than any other insect. There are over 1,350 species of aphids damaging garden plants, houseplants, coniferous and deciduous trees, and decorative shrubs. Aphids feed on plant sap and prefer new plant growth. They often feed in large numbers and can quickly destroy gardens and flowerbeds. Plants attacked by aphids often suffer stunted growth, low crop yields, and even death. They leave sticky sugars called honeydew that grows black mold and attract other insects like ants, bees, flies, wasps and spread dozens of plant diseases. The best way to spot and stop infestations is to inspect plants often during the growing season. There are appropriately registered and labeled insecticides for controlling these pests.
