Bed Bug treatments: Myth or Fact

The first thing most people do when they have a pest problem is first to google the issue and then go out and buy what they need to “do it yourself”. Of course bed bugs are no different so I have accumulated a list of DIY solutions that work and those that don’t.
Fact – Diatomaceous earth is used to control many pest including bed bugs, apply diatomaceous earth to seams of your mattress, bed frames, and furniture.
Fact – Wash bedding is an effective method to get rid of bed bugs. The use of heat is one step in eradicate bed bugs.
Fact – Freezing infested items is an actually a home remedy for bed bugs. However, like with most home remedies, it is not a foolproof solution.
Fact – Vacuuming is a real DIY bed bug treatment. Vacuuming removes adult bed bugs and nymphs as well as the eggs.
Myth – Dryer sheets do not work.
Myth – Ultrasonic devices have no effect on bed bugs.
Myth – Mothballs will not wipe out an infestation of bed bugs but one study found it will kill some adult bed bugs but did not kill any eggs or nymphs. still survived
Myth – Baking soda does not work.
Myth – Tea tree oil is only partly effective it is sprayed directly onto the insect but is harmful to humans.
Myth – Rubbing alcohol like tea tree oil will kill bed bugs if sprayed directly on them, but if you can find alcohol percentage of 90% or above it will effectively kill bed bugs.
Myth – Baking powder does not work, it is thought that baking powder will dehydrate the bugs but there is no proof that it works.
Fact – Call a Pest Control company and your bed bugs will be terminated.
