Blue Bottle Flies

Blue bottle flies look similar to the house fly but are shiny blue in color. Theses flies are usually found on windows and make brash, energetic sounds. They can spread diseases therefore are considered pests. Blue bottle flies deposit their eggs in decomposing organic matter, so its likely rotting material is close. Examine sewer pipes for breaks and garbage areas should be inspected. Dead animal carcasses may also be the source of a sudden appearance of blue bottle flies such as a full mouse or rat trap or a dead animal inside a wall or attic. Bottle flies are also good pollinators, often pollinating flowers with robust scents. Bottle flies also feed on the nectar of these flowers in order to produce eggs. Blue bottle flies may enter buildings in search of light through an open door or window. Fly strips and aerosol insecticides kill only visible flies and do not necessarily treat an infestation.
