Insects large “cribs” nests

In the world of insects, mega nests are always possible, yet dealing with competition from other colonies or natural enemies usually limits the size of their nest. Wasps, ants and termites can grow mega mansions if the conditions are just right. The Vespula germanica species of wasps, found in much of the Northern Hemisphere, native to Europe, Northern Africa, and temperate Asia build nests that typically reach the size of a five-gallon bucket. They’ll house one queen and 15,000 or more wasps, yet these wasps have built nests in New Zealand as large as approximately 12 feet by five feet by 18 feet, in 1963. A termite colony can last for a decade or two once it becomes established. A typical termite mound might be 6.5 feet tall, but they can grow to 20 feet, or more. Termite mounds have physical limits to their growth, if a section of the nest is too far from water or other key properties it will be abandon. Ants on the other hand can have mega colonies, one stretching over 3,700 miles in Europe and extended to Japan and California. Ants mega colonies are really only limited by time.
