Mosquito Season has peaked

Mosquito season differs from year to year dependent on temperature, moisture and other conditions. Mosquito season starts slowly in late spring, when warm weather brings out the first of the insects, peaks in summer, and slows down in the fall.  Mosquitoes don’t go away for good until the first freeze, followed by temperatures consistently below 10 degrees celsius. The exact start of the season depends on both temperature and rainfall.  Now that the hot weather of summer has arrived, mosquito season has reached its peak. The hot temperatures make them go through their life cycle faster, so more egg laying and hatching. At the end of the season, mosquito’s species which die off for the winter won’t disappear until frost. Those that hibernate will begin their dormancy when winter weather arrives, but some may come out on warm winter days, so you might see a few any time of year that the temperature is warms up. But the bottom line is, we can discourage them from breeding by eliminating standing water in backyards, around houses, in gutters and ditches.
