Oriental Cockroaches aka water bugs, shade roaches or black beetles

A shiny black color, oriental cockroaches are a flightless insect intruders that gain entrance underneath doors, open doors or following utility lines, pipes, open drains or sewers. Although an outdoors species found living beneath mulch, leaf piles, storm drains, sewers or beneath stones, they can prosper in wall voids and crawlspaces. They are known for their fondness of feeding on decaying garbage. They can survive for up to a month without food, but will die if they do not have access to water within a two week period. Male Oriental Cockroaches will live up to 5 months were the females can live to 6 months. Oriental cockroaches communicate using a musty odor. They prefer cool, damp locations, so they are typically located in basements. They are also a source of food-borne pathogens including E.coli and Salmonella.
