Moths munching your clothes?

The mildest winter for years has given rise to an epidemic of moths and promises yet more misery for those of us trying to eradicate the tiny pests who munch through our garments. Moth populations have been rising over the years, not just because of warmer winters, we have more clothes than any previous generation, we keep our heating on for longer and we clean our homes less scrupulously. They enter your home hidden in old rugs or old furniture as eggs or simply fly in through a window. The moth doesn’t do the damage, it’s their larvae. In a three week period before they die, the females can lay up to 100 pinhead-sized eggs. The females find dark corners of our homes where the rice grain sized larvae can chew away undisturbed on cashmere, silk, wool, feathers, sheepskin, dust, hair (human and pet), dead rodents and feathers. Lower temperatures and increased air circulation combined with cleaning won’t kill moths, but it does make for a less favourable environment. If you want all-out chemical warfare against moths, foggers and smoke bomb which will produce a cloud of insecticide fatal to moths.
