Pavement Ants

Every year homeowners are alarmed by the number of sand dunes that seem to spring up from cracks in their pavement and between paving bricks. Pavement ants nest under sidewalks, driveways, and buildings. They may enter your home through gaps under garage doors, basement walls, or concrete floors. Pavement ants are one of the most commonly sighted pests in Canada. They take shelter under hard surfaces which makes them hard to irradiate therefore they return every year, season after season. These ants can contaminate both human and pet foods as they can carry germs and disease. Pavement ants feed on dead insects, seeds and any food we drop. These ants are very persistent and given enough time will turn your beautiful paving stone driveway into a hilly mess. Here are a few tips on getting rid of these ants: seal openings around doors and foundations, trim trees so they don’t touch your house, keep your kitchen clean and make sure your garbage lids are secured tightly. If you are unable to terminate these ants with hardware store ant baits, call a professional pest control company.
