Raccoon Season

As the temperature continues to warm up, we will see more raccoons looking for shelter and increasing their scavenging ways. Raccoons can be a daily annoyance for many Delta residences. They feed on grubs and larvae in lawns and gardens, get into waste and organic garbage bins, and on the constant hunt for pet food.  They look to get into your home through unsealed chimneys and old roofs or gaps in your attic, roof or garage. By keeping your organic garbage bins indoors until pickup day and garbage bins strapped down will discourage the inquisitive raccoons. Sprinkle pure soap flakes on lawns and watering thoroughly. Sprinkle hot cayenne powder on vegetables in your garden. Motion activated sprinklers installed in the front or back of your home can also help. Remember that it is illegal to trap or poison raccoons.
