Tulips and crocuses are candy to rodents

SnipImage

Tulips are treats for squirrels, moles, deer and other animals but they avoid daffodils, which contain lycorine, a bitter alkaloid that’s toxic. Lycorine is a toxic crystalline alkaloid found in various Amaryllidaceae species. Other plants such as cultivated bush lily and surprise lilies produce lycorine. It may be highly poisonous or even lethal, when ingested in certain quantities There is an easy sure-fire solution to use when ordering bulbs this fall, and it doesn’t involve smelly sprays, expensive fencing, firearms or pest control companies. Choose any variety, small- or large-flowering, yellow, white, orange, peachy pink or bi-colors. Deer and rodents won’t eat them. The same is true for white snowdrops and snowflakes.
