Vaccinated your dog against Leptospirosis

A bacterial disease that can infect dogs, raccoons, rats, mice, skunks and squirrels is called Leptospirosis. Signs your dog has this disease are fever, vomiting, abdominal pain, severe muscle pain, stiffness, diarrhea, refusal to eat, lethargy, hemorrhage, jaundice and increased drinking and urination. Younger dogs have more complications than older dogs due to their weakened immune systems. Drinking, swimming or walking through any sources of contaminated water can cause infection. It is important that your dog gets vaccinated against this disease as people can contract it from their dogs. Leptospirosis is treatable with antibiotics if treated early but can become fatal. Leptospirosis infections can be kept under control if rodent problems are illuminated, stop your dog from drinking standing water and getting your dog vaccinated. Also, washing your hands after handling your pet is not an option.
