If you have ever had a silverfish infestation than it’s most likely that you’ve seen them in the sink or bathtub, that is because they are falling from the ceiling, electrical and plumbing fixtures and can’t get out. Living as long as 3 years and producing over 1000 eggs a year, these night crawlers can be found almost anywhere in the home, bathrooms, kitchen, bedrooms, crawl spaces, closets, storage areas and attics. As we approach late fall and especially at Christmas when homeowners are taking decorations from boxes from storage, silverfish may be found, indicating of a silverfish infestation. Like most insects, they prefer proteins and carbohydrates like paper, glue, flour, starch, sugar, dead insects, paste and a variety of fabrics: cotton, wool and silk or synthetic fibers like rayon. To head off a silverfish infestation: check all cardboard boxes for silverfish, vacuum all binding of old stored books, store items in  tight plastic containers, store all clothes in sealed containers, and finally call a professional to put an end to the silverfish.
